Place Robin is the beating heart of the Plan Dessus district in Vevey. The several activities and programs (sports fields, kitchen gardens, playgrounds, pic nic tables, furniture of all kinds…) create great richness but also fragmentation, as they accumulated without a clear plan. The proposal for the redesign is to obtain a coherent and legible structure that can reorganize and safeguard existing functions while freeing up space to imagine new ones, responding at the same time to the new societal and climatic challenges.

The public space extends until the existing facades incorporating the existing roads, going from a 4000m² to a 7000m² in area. Four large pedestrian accesses at the corners firmly tie the new square to the urban fabric and guarantee easy diagonal crossing. This gesture creates four crescent-shaped areas: here, the large existing trees regain a central role and provide for shade and protection. Devoting attention to preserve the trees’ roots, the surface is entirely de-sealed and a network of smaller paths is installed to allow to experience the variety of urban amenties, programmed areas and furniture pieces, designed to meet the different citizens’ ways of inhabiting the space.

Finally, a generous central space remains free of constraints, offering itself to everyday appropriation and events.
